Is there any way to recover rear end gears that have some rust on them? Would it be cost effective?

  any photo's
surface rust or deep pits,?

if just minor surface rust you can use NAVAL JELLY or other rust remover,

check you gear ratio, and see if you can find used ones if needed,

its Not a JOB you want to do TWICE,,,,!!!
my 2 cents 37RAGTOPMAN

If you find rust on gears in the rear end or transmission, it is a sure sign that they have been immersed in water at some time. It is a good bet that most, if not all, gears, bearings, etc, are also damaged. Trying to repair and use such items almost always means they will fail, perhaps causing an accident on the road.
