I am looking for aftermarket 6V positive ground analog engine gauges for my 53 Sunliner. I'm looking for a complete set up for ammeter/engine temp and oil pressure, something that has all of the necessary hardware , sending units, etc. I'm looking to get more accurate readings than I have been able to get with the stock gauges. Actually they don't need to be 6 volt. You can buy some nice mechanical gauges that work very well. The amp meter does not care if you are running 6 or 12 volts. Your local auto parts dealers have a variety of gauges. I have used the Equuis brand in the past with good results and they are very reasonably priced. They do have some with the old block and white faces that have the retro look.

I am curious about what you will do with more accurate readings. Is it really necessary to know that your oil pressure is 10, 20, 30 or 40# or is it more important to know when it is not normal for your engine? If you want to know the status of your charging system, get a voltmeter. An ammeter just gives an indication of the current flow in the charging circuit, a voltmeter will tell you if you battery is getting enough charge when the accessories are being used. It will also give you an early indication of potential battery failure. Tom

I currently have only the stock engine temp gauge working. I have an analog pressure gauge plumbed into the oil filter line that reads 40 lbs at idle but the dash gauge shows 0-20 while the under hood is 40 at the lowest. The stock ammeter doesn't work as well. I'm looking for a more accurate under dash aftermarket gauge set that I can rely on while driving This message was edited by jimbomac on 7-24-19 @ 7:40 PM

I like old style Stewart Warner gauges. That's what we're using in our '36 (under-dash three gauge vintage aluminum panel). Used units are available at swap meets or on Ebay, they're not crazy expensive, and the vintage appearance is nice. The temperature gauge is quite accurate. One day I stuck my wife's candy thermometer in the hot Prestone after removing the radiator cap. The Stewart Warner reading was accurate within a few degrees. Its sending unit screws into the left water pump. As TomO says, a voltmeter would be great, but I've never been able to locate a 6 volt SW unit.
