Topic: Best rebuild books for 1940 Ford Trans & rear??

jdeisman    -- 07-02-2019 @ 4:22 PM
  Hello!
I’ve never posted on this forum before but I figured you folks would be the best people to ask the following question!
I’m 18 and haven’t had much experience with early v8 transmissions and rear ends but I really want to rebuild my 1940 top loader and rear end. I have a spare of each to provide parts but I don’t know where to start or what tips and tricks there are. I’ve worked on Model As and Model Ts but not any early v8 stuff yet but I’d like to learn.
Are there any good books or other readources to really guide me through the process of rebuilding those two? I’d like something to guide me along so I can be confident in my work.
Thank you!!
Jay

This is nice to see. 18 years old and eager to tackle a trans rebuild. Wants to learn by doing, and is smart enough to seek out advice and a manual. There is some hope for the future of our old-car hobby!

That book looks perfect for the trans rebuild! Exactly what I’m looking for!

Does anyone have an extra or used one that I can purchase cheaper than brand new ? If not I’m going to order it, thank you!

Probably not, but place a wanted ad, they are free. Also place one here: https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=18 and here: https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/forums/wanted.30/

The Ford Service Bulletins also have a good section on differential rebuilding.
