Chaps.........As a new owner of a 37 Touring Sedan with everyday being a learning curve it time to change the oil. The previous owner informed me that she has diesel oil in her belly ? Anyway I am looking at replacing with Millers Classic 20/50 pistoneeze is this a good choice ? The engine was rebuilt to run on unleaded fuel a few years ago. I am also assuming I should drop the pan and replace the screen ? I would also like to replace the bolts for the pan with stainless cap/allen head can anybody inform me of the thread and length of bolts I should order ?

There have been arguments for and against using an oil with high concentrations of ZDDP.

My opinion is that high concentrations of ZDDP is not necessary as there were small concentrations of the chemical in the oil when these engine were new. The only downside that I see to the high concentration oils is to your pocket book.

I use a name brand oil in my cars.

It should not be necessary to drop the oil pan to clean or replace the oil pump screen or clean out the pan. The previous owner used a detergent oil and you are planning on using one also, so the sludge buildup should be minimal.

To prevent sludge buildup, use a detergent oil, drive the car until the oil has warmed up completely every time you start the engine (this takes about 30 minutes of driving) and change the oil when it is hot. I would also take the car on a 1 hour or more trip frequently. Never let the engine idle for long periods.

Enjoy driving your Touring Sedan along the country roads and occasional Motor Way trips.
