Topic: 47 oil filter fittings

I took the fittings out to paint the oil filter canister and later I noticed one had a large hole and the other had a small hole. I am guessing but want confirmation the fitting with the small hole goes in the side of the canister and the large hole fitting goes in the bottom. Can anyone confirm this. Thanks in advance for your replies.

You are correct. The fitting with the restriction goes on the side of the housing, and connects to the oil line from the back of the engine where the pressure switch is.

The purpose of the fitting with the small hole is to form a restriction so the oil pressure can be retained, and the filter circuit can't bypass the flow starving the supply to the bearings.
