Is there a correct size battery that will fit in a '40 Ford? Are OPTIMA's a option?

Group 2. IMHO, Optimas are a good choice, with or without a Group 2 disguise case.

Not sure if it is the "correct" size but group 1 six volt batteries slip right into the battery tray on my 31 Model A and my 42 Wagon. I would expect they would fit your 40 Ford as well.

Go with the Optima. I am on year 9 with one and no problems, good starts, no acid spills. Keep them on a maintainer when stored for the winter. They are a bit pricey, but all batteries are high right now do to the cost of lead among other factors. Consider that you may replace two regular batteries in the same time period, then the price becomes very reasonable. If you have a points judged car you will need to buy the Optima hidden in the early Ford case.
