Topic: '50 F1 Hood Latch Operation

HenryDominguez    -- 03-21-2019 @ 6:37 AM
I just bought a 1950 F1 and cannot figure out what is wrong with the hood release lever. It appears that it should have some type of spring to hold it in position, because the lever on my pickup just flops around. I have to reach in through the hood opening to get a hold of it. Once I pull it forward, it does operate the hood latch okay. So, my question is, is there some type of spring that holds the lever in place? If so, are these spring reproduced? And, can someone be kind enough to send me a photo of what the hood lever mechanism looks like?

Henry, I can't send a photo , but if you have an F-1 you might want to look for the following book at a swap meet; The Ford Truck Chassis Parts Catalog. It has tons of good info and diagrams for the F-1s. It covers '48-'52. If you happen to be coming to Portland for the swap meet in two weeks I'll bet you find one. I would also check with C and G Parts as they may have and answer. I suspect there is a spring in the latch/handle mechanism.
