Topic: 36 ford steering box removal

Hi, This is my first time on the forum, so please excuse if I make mistakes. I need to remove the steering box from my 36 Ford sedan(which I only have for a week) I have unbolted it from the frame but it doesn't want to separate from the column. I do not have a manual and dont want to force anything to remove it. I saw in the forum that a member "vetcol" said he has pictures and procedures . How do I go about it please? I am from south Africa and we have very limited resources regarding these old cars.

If you are wanting to drop out the box from the bottom you do need to remove the steering wheel. You next remove the light switch from the bottom of the steering box. You then make sure the column lock/ignition is in the unlocked position. The drag link also needs to be removed from the pitman arm.
Lastly the car must be high enough off the ground that when the box comes out the bottom it can clear the column tube.
A correction to my post needs to be made; Remove the light switch on the bottom of the column FIRST and then the steering wheel.

Pierre, Here are 3 pages from an old NAPA repair manual that might shed some light on your project.

Be very careful with the horn rod. It is easy to bend and once it is bent every time you turn the lights will go on (or maybe off).
