I just purchased a 1951 Ford 2 door Sedan. I want to put whitewalls on her so just how large of a tire will fit other than the standard size?

GO for the WIDE WHITE WALLS, !!!!!! the originals were 670x15, which might be better way to go, then oversize tires, depending if you live where there are hills, or just flat surfaces, it does change the gear ratios, ADD some BLING, to that FORD,,,,!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! also it is more visible at night, and it make it stand out during the day, my 2 cents 1937RAGTOPMAN

Looks like what they drove on the old "San Francisco Beat" program from the 50's. It was driven by two SFPD detectives. It starred Tom Tully and Warner Anderson. I don't think I would like them. I like the car the way it is in the picture. Can you find someone to photoshop the whites on? Try going to HAMB and asking for help (https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/the-photoshop-thread-to-end-all-photoshop-threads.300531/page-770#post-12964697). hi stooze that was my first car I used on the road,!!! it was a great car, always started, and used as a starter for my dads STUDEBAKER in the cold days, by pushing it I think like I said before, WHITE WALLS for SURE, just to Much BLACK, for me, if you go for the black wall tires equip the car with some POLICE items,? I would stick with the stock size tire and suit yourself with the choice of black vs white walls. It is your car and you have to enjoy the look. If you really want bigger tires, the 7.10 x 15 was used as an oversize tire. Tom

Of course it's your car to do with as you please!! But, if it was mine------- Back in the day, this model would almost NEVER have had white sidewall tires, except maybe for kids who put on "Portawalls". White sidewalls cost more money and the folks who could afford whites would have bought a more upscale model. It's a great looking car just like it is. Enjoy!!

I remember painting whitewalls a]on many cars in those days. My Grandfather had blackwalls on his 50 Ford. Mine looked better 1934 Ford's since 1972

Sometimes it depends on the color of the car. The Hawthorne Green Metallic coupe pictured in the reply above looked dull until I installed the extra-wide whitewalls and then it popped. On the other hand, the Raven Black over Sea Island Green Victoria pictured below looks better to me with blackwalls. The black tires balance the top against the lighter color. Also, it doesn't hurt that there is picture of an attractive model stepping out of an identical Victoria (with blackwalls) on page 48 of Lorin Sorensen's book, Ford's Golden Fifties.
