Topic: Steering Wheel Alignment on 1950 F-1

How do you align the steering wheel on a 1950 F-1? The steering wheel on my pickup is off about 30 degrees; going down the road, the left horizontal spoke on the wheel is at about 10 o'clock. Usually, I would adjust the draglink to straighten out the wheel, but I don't see how that is possible on the draglink on this model pickup. Can somebody tell me the procedure?

You could just remove the steering wheel and re-index it on the steering shaft by the number of splines required to properly line up the wheel.

Oh! I didn't know the steering wheel was splined; older Fords have a woodruff key. I'll take a look tomorrow. Thanks!

  Henry,
Can you explain to me what sort of a draglink has no adjustment to it? I can't imagine having to re-index the steering wheel to achieve fine adjustments.

The splined shaft began with the '48 pickups and the '49 cars.

Yes, Alan is correct. I pulled the steering wheel this morning and the shaft is splined, not keyed. So there is no need to adjust the drag link like on earlier Fords. So, steering is now straight!

Thanks everyone for your input.
