I see pictures of 1936 Fords with the greyhound hood ornament and some without. My 36 is a Fordor. I love the look of the greyhound ornament but I want my car to be correct. So were they correct for a 36 or for that model?

I've read that the Greyhound was correct for the 'Made In Canada' 1936 Fords but I have my doubts given that no Canadian Ford part number for it can be found. In the US, the Greyhound was made for and is correct for the 1934 model year only - Part Number 40-18385.

After looking through the club 35-36 restoration book, Greyhounds are "not" covered in the accessory section of the book THUS I would say that though the Greyhound might have been sold via the dealership.....it was NOT a Ford authorized accessory for 1935 (I know) and appears 1936 either!!!

Enclosed is a factory Canadian ad. The ad suggests that it was a factory installed item.

Tom - Where's the Canadian Ford part number? It could still be an after market offering. If it is legit, Paul would still have to prove that his '36 is of Canadian manufacture in order for his car to be correct with the dog installed....

I see your point but from another page of the ad (below), it seems that the objects mentioned are a lig factory option. Also in the ad, it makes a reference to a "special factory interior." I doubt if a dealer would be interested in removing an entire interior to replace it with a new special interior. As for proof of the manufacturing origin, that would be easy to verify. The serial would start off with a "C"

Thank you all for your efforts to answer my question. I would never have guessed it would have been Canadian. I have verified my car was built in Detroit so as cool as the greyhound is I'll stay with the V8 hood ornament I have. Thank you all.

I'd purchased a very nice 36 roadster last year and it was equipped with the greyhound and came with an additional NOS greyhound. While I like them, like you, I wanted authentic and correct.
Both the one on the car and the NOS one have moved on.
Rest assured, you are not alone

Paul, Go ahead and put it on the 36 if you like it. I have a 1934 Fordor with a greyhound, fender skirts and a luggage rack.
All where available at the Ford Dealers in 1934.. If I had purchased this car in 1934, it would have been at a Ford Dealer, not
at the factory.
Now you can enjoy having people ask you if it's a Jaguar. When I learned that they identified the Greyhound as Jaguar,
I would look at the friends of the person asking and say, "I hope you don't go hunting with this guy , because he doesn't
know a cat from dog, that's a Greyhound Dog and this car is a 1934 Ford"

1934Ford... The original poster expressed clearly that he wants "correct".
He can, as you suggest, paste whatever he'd like on his car. After all, it is his car.

Your comment is very carefully worded, but let's not mislead the audience to think that every accessory available at a Ford dealer at that time was a Ford-authorized accessory. The first Ford-authorized fender skirts were those for the 1937 model year. Those on your '34 are aftermarket Gar Wood skirts.
