Topic: My grandfather’s old Ford

carrera2    -- 03-06-2019 @ 3:05 AM
  Hello
My grandfather owned this ford here in Norway in the late 1940’s. (See attached photo).
I do not know very much about the car, but it would be fun to know something about it.
Does anyone know which model and year this could be?
The closest I have found on the internet is the model 48 german special, but i don’t know anything about older cars.

You may want to check on www.fordbarn.com there are a few people with experience with Fords made in Europe. and could supply a better photo and more detail. May also want to look through ford barn search function.

Germany like the USA has driven automobiles on the right side of the road since the early 20th century.

The car is a European made automobile most likely German. The US made cars did not have "Landau" irons on their collapsible tops.

I have attached a photo of a similar Glaser bodied 1935 Ford that was at the Grand National Meet in Dearborn last year

It's a '35 Ford Werke (Koln) cabriolet. I suggest that you pose your question on www.fordbarn.com as there is a participant on the forum of that site who is quite knowledgeable about the Koln cabriolets and has several of them, including a '35. His name is Robert Davis and his 'handle' on the 'barn' is 'rockfla'. He is also a member of this Club, but he may not see your question posted here. I will let him know of your question.

I would say with a high degree of certainty that its is not of German origins, especially IF it is "right hand drive". I believe it to be of either British or French build most likely ether Janer or one of many English carriage house (ie. Carlton, Salmon Tickford). I have attached a few pictures of "similar' bodied 35's. The absence of "trafficators" and the existence of fender mounted marker lights strongly supports British/English.

  Rockfla,
Interesting that not all the 35's used the 16" wire wheels that we are use to here in America. Also that the rear part of the body was different on some of the cars. I think the V8 Times did an article on them a few years back, including the cover. Or maybe it was Classic Cars Magazine, or both Thanks to all for sharing..

1934 Ford's since 1972

Thanks for the compliment. Our German 35, as well as all the other German 35's we have had personal contact with have all had 17" wires on them as well as any German "print" that we have seen all show 17", which we were "called out" on at the EFV8 Grand National and smartly had documented at judging time!!!

Thank you for all the good comments. Now I know a little more about the car.
Here is a picture taken in 1946, when the norwegian king (Haakon VII), borrowed the car during his visit in our city.
I can see in the picture that the car is right hand drive. When I put the licence plate in the norwegian online car register, it gets «no result». So when the car got recyclet, or where it is today is still unknown to me.

Wow, neat picture. I would love to have a copy of these for my photo collection. Interesting the "different" front bumper and upside down bumper guards!! If you would like to share you're photos my email is modelc1933@att.net. Thanks for sharing you're story!!!

Yes of course. I will send them to you.
Thank you so much for all the good information you provided.
I guess I found the right people with good knowledge about these kind of cars
