I have always admired the Banjo Steering wheels in some of the mid 30's Ford V8's. I have some questions because I'm considering changing the one in my 34 Fordor V8 to a banjo. What years was it offered in the Ford V8's? Which year was the prettiest? Will they fit my 34 steering shaft? Are there good reproductions out there? Who sells them? Thanks 1934 Ford's since 1972

Banjo wheels were offered in 1936,1937, 1938 and 1939. The 1936 wheel had straight spokes evenly spaced, the 1937 has spokes that were slightly curved and evenly spaced, and the 39-39 had curved spokes that fanned out towards the center hub. Personally I prefer the '38-'39 wheel. Any of the Ford banjo wheels will in fact fit your '34 shaft. There were reproduction 38-39 banjos , but they have not been made for some time. Probably a tough to find item. You do see used wheels from time to time on e-Bay and there was recently a nice one advertised on the Fordbarn for $400. That price is pretty much the going rate for nice wheel.

The 38 and 39 wheels are different, the chrome piece the spokes pass thru on a 38 are rounded to match the glove box handle, the 39 are more square

As it has already been established, Ford's earlier than '36 did not have banjo steering wheels. Since the banjo type of steering wheel is not original equipment to your '34, and you are dead set on having one I would suggest you use a '36, as stated, they are a flat type wheel in lieu or being curved, therefore the '36 might look more stock. A word of caution, the original banjo type of wheel have many problems, it is very common for the 'spokes' to be quite loose from many years of pounding across bad roads, and the hard rubber can be very badly cracked. I have attached a pix of a '36 wheel that I have had for almost forty years. The spokes are in great shape, no looseness, the hard rubber part needs repair, which have been started using 'Bondo'. I had intended to convert my '36 back to a floor shift in lieu of the column, gathered all the parts needed, then changed my mind... Bill 36 5 win delx cpe

the horn button light switch are a little different in width every yr they were made if U find {lots of luck|.th ere also different where were the strings are have the bare tying them together
