Topic: Correct Power Valve Size

What is the correct power valve rating for a 59A-9510-A carb on a "46 V8? I live about 1500' above sea level, if that is a factor. I have a 5.5" and a 7.5", and am not sure what the difference would be in performance or mileage.

7.5 valves open up right away when feeding gas off idle, too much gas for the FH to handle at low RPM's so ive been using 5.5 ones in my kits and hundreds of rebuilds over the past 25 yrs .Theres a slight delay to the 5.5 ones. Real world the cars run much better. 3.5 & 4.5 are not available any more and are useful in two carb setups but NOT in production any more. Some are being sold but are the modern type and require grinding inside the bowl to fit right. I also have the gasket surface trued up on a lathe as there is a mold parting line on them which will cause a leak. I have dozens of them so modified with special nylon gasket to really seal properly. ken ct. 1-203-260-9780 if you want more info.
