Topic: What spark plug came on a 36 with aluminum heads

gulfoil    -- 01-06-2019 @ 4:07 PM
I noticed my 36 coupe skipping and I pulled the plugs to find some of the electrodes burned off. One was gone completely and 2 others had shortened a bit. It has Champion take apart 7's in it and I am wondering if they are too hot for this setup. Timing and carb are set correctly and it was running really good. Iv'e only had this car since Feb and the previous owner did not drive it, where I have put 2500 miles on it. The aluminum heads are stock and have no adapters. Thanks for the help!

In response to your actual question, not one that you did not ask, the original plug was a Champion 7.

Champion does not make the three piece 7 plugs any more and has not for a long time so you have been driving on original or nearly original plugs. I would suggest you keep them in case you want to show the car and run a modern plug. Nearly all the big name plug companies make a plug for the early Fords without the need for any adapters. another plug is NGK AB-6

I have tried NGK's and others . Had a fouling problem with # 8 plug ngk and went back to the 21 and fouling disappeared ,gone, gone. He says his plugs are white. Sounds like more of a carb mixture or jet causing a lean mixture. Stromberg 97 should have .045 MJ's if a 48 should have .048 jets ,power valves 97 has a #65 and 48 a #63. ken ct OMO . Idle mix screws should be approx. 1 turn out from gently closed. Good talking to you last nite, heres some more info. ken ct.

Well based on several members advice and the availability of Champions I installed the D-21s and it improved the performance immediately. The old Champion 7s were primarily for shows and judging and were too worn to perform well. BIG difference. Thanks to all of you for your assistance and opinions, you were a great help.
