Trying to reinstall the 8"trim on the cowl,on my 1948 Ford 2dr sedan.The original clips don"t seem to hold trim on very tight.Should I try and install the newer plastic clips, anyone got any ideas.those pieces definitely have a left and right to them should larger bevel go towards door.Thanks Johna

You may need new clips. the originals may have lost their shape and that's why they won't hold. You could use the plastic ones, but what works even better are the metal clips that have a threaded stud on them. There are also clips that have the metal stud that can be trimmed to fit into your trim. Check with your local automotive paint shop. Those shops usually have the trim clips or have a book with samples and they can order what you need.

Restoration Specialties may have the correct clips for your trim. It sound like you do not have the correct ones. The threaded stud clips work good if you cannot find the correct clips. http://www.restorationspecialties.com/ Tom

C&G sells body trim clip kits (800/266-0470). They are not expensive. Most trip clips, particularly the type with a threaded shank, usually can't be reused due to age and rust. If the threaded type have been overtightened, it is likely removing the old clips will be challenging, particularly in such confined places such as behind the dashboard where the short trim is located
