Not sure if this correct so looking for verification. I have the car rewired. Instrument panel switch comes on even when the switch is off, as do the headlights...is this correct? Also both wires black and green to the tail lights are hot all the time,, I am sure this isnt correct, probaly need a new stop light switch but the other wire should not be hot all the time, is this related to the other lights being hot all the time?

Get a copy of your car's wiring diagram and check the connections and routing of each wire.

The ignition switch does not control headlights or dash lights, they can be switched "ON" without the ignition switch. The headlight switch does control the dash lights so it must be in one of the three "ON" positions for the dash light switch to control the dash lights. The Black wire to the tail lights should only be energized when the headlight switch is in one of the three "ON" positions. The Green wire to the brake lights from the stop light switch should be energized only when the brake pedal is depressed. Often the brake mechanical linkage hangs up slightly causing brake lights to come on so check that all the linkage moves properly especially the hand brake linkage to the brake cross shaft.

It should be noted that the dash light switch for 35 Fords is on when the knob is pulled. On the 36 Ford the dash light switch is on when pushed in and off when pulled out. I do not know why Ford did that, but I believe it to be true.
