I'm planning on changing my 48 Fords to side distributor.
I have found an adapter for the cam and front cover. Which water pumps should I use?? How do i mark front pulleyt for TDC??? Also what do I do with GEN?? Thanks

Water pumps stay the same. You will have to change the carb, too, as the vacuum only distributor requires an internal port that taps the venturi. That distributor will not function properly on just vacuum from the intake manifold. The generator can stay where it is, but you will have to improvise a distributor clamp on the right side head to hold the distributor in place. You can determine TDC on #1 cylinder by placing you finger over the sparkplug hole as you turn the engine. When you feel compression, the piston is on the way up. When it is at the top of the stroke, you will need to mark the spot on the crank pulley to match a pointer you make and bolt to the timing gear cover if there isn't one on the cover already. I'm not sure why you would convert, anyway, given the cost and time. The stock "pancake" distributor is a good unit, and swapping for a "posthole" type won't improve performance.
