confusedlady    -- 05-16-2010 @ 11:44 AM
I am helping restore a 1950 Ford hot rod. My current quest is to find out what the numbers mean that are stamped into the firewall.
They are not the VIN. Can anyone help me dicipher this:
DA 70B ED 13K 244
Thank you!

Here is what I think your codes mean:

DA - Dearborn assembly plant
70B - Custom Deluxe Tudor
E - Hawthorne Green Metallic
D - Custom Broadcloth, gray star dot pattern
13K - built on November 13th
244 - unit production number

Note, this is not the VIN number. That would be stamped on the 45 degree brace at the front right (passenger) corner of the frame and should look something like *B0DA1xxxxx* (B=V8, DA=Dearborn, 1=constant, xxxxx=serial number). If it starts with an "H", your car started life as a 6 cylinder model. If it starts with "P" it was the 110 HP police model.

(Didn't mean to spoil the fun of you doing it yourself, but I like this stuff!)

  The Ford prefixes are: AT-Atlanta, BF-Buffalo, CS- Chester, CH-Chicago, DL-Dallas, DA-Dearborn, EG-Edgewater, HM-Highland Park, KC-Kansas City, LB-Long Beach, LU-Lousiville, MP-Memphis, NR-Norfolk, RH-Richmond, SP-Somerville, SR-Twin Cities (St. Paul).
It sure would have been helpful to have had access to thus kind of info for earlier years.
