Topic: 1940 Ford Heater Colors

I am restoring the Heater on my 1940 Ford two door Deluxe. What colors were used for the heater cover and what color was used for the mechanics behind the Heater face cover?

The entire heater body was painted light gray. I have attached a photo herein that depicts what was painted gray and what was black. Unfortunately all I have are black & white photographs.
I am certain larry Caplan can add to this thread exactly what the color was called and perhaps a formula.Three red stripes were painted on the front cover. Larry was selling the stripes in easy to apply vinyl. If he no longer does, I can supply them to you.
The rear housing was also gray.

  Mike----

Always glad to assist you, my friend.

The attached photo gives a good indication of the shade of grey on the heater body, and also shows the location of the red stripes you mentioned to Wes already.

If anyone can help Wes out from this point, it's Larry Caplan. Great source of info on the heaters.

Good luck.

Tom

When I disassembled my heater to restore it, the original gray was still on the inside if the motor mounting area and the inside of the defroster nozzles. I ordered the heater gray that TCP Global has and found it too dark. I mixed some white into it to color match the original sample that was on my heater.

I have seen heaters that were painted with Rustoleum Light Machine Gray and it is pretty close. I have attached a photo of one.
