I started to rebuild the distributor for my '46, (first time) and found a slotted screw in the end of the shaft shaft. What is the purpose of the screw? Is there an oiling wick in behind it? Also, the outer few threads have been "staked" preventing removal. Any hints on how to clean up the threads so the screw can be removed?

Ive rebuilt hundreds of dist. over the past 30 yrs and NEVER had to remove it ??? ken ct.
