Topic: Rear Wheel Bearings

I am interested in obtaining a recommended frequency for repacking the rear wheel bearings in my stock 1939 Deluxe. I use Sta-Lube 3131 grease. They were last repacked 1400 miles ago. New seals were installed. The car does not have zerk grease fittings.
Thanks all.

My owner's says each fall and spring. I interpreted that to be about 5,000 miles.

If the car is new to you, you may want to do it more often to check for wear on the underside of the axle housings. After a couple of checks that do not show any wear, you should be good to go to the longer period.

I installed hardened sleeves about 30 years ago and do not see any signs of wear yet.

The grease fittings were eliminated in mid '39. Service letters indicated folks were over greasing and subsequently ruining the seal(s).
TomO nailed this with his advice (as usual)...

My '48', which I believe to be original, has grease fittings on the rear wheel bearings.

Some housings continued to be produced with a threaded hole for a grease fitting long after 1939. The hole was supposed to be plugged with a slotted / flat top plug.

  Mike, that's good information.
Question; ? Are all the Zerk fittings on the 1934 Ford the same? Is there a number for the correct ones?

1934 Ford's since 1972
