Topic: Oil in coolant

  Hi All,
I have found that there is oil in my coolant. I've flushed out the entire coolant system, replaced the radiator, all hose, all thermostats (which i was going to do anyway), filled up with fresh coolant and drove about twenty miles. When i came, back, there is still oil in the coolant. Any ideas what I can do to fix/check what is wrong please? I have also changed my oil and there was NO coolant in the oil. Is it perhaps a cracked block, or maybe a head gasket?

You may have a leak at one of the head gaskets which is allowing some compression products to leak into the cooling system. Remove all of the spark plugs and examine them for signs of coolant. Do a compression check on each of the cylinders to find out if any of them show signs of a bad head gasket seal. Good luck sorting this out.

You didn't say what year your motor is.
If it is '48 or earlier, there is an oil gallery that oils the bronze bushing in each water pump. If there is wear in the bushing, oil can get into the coolant via the water pump.
Oil in the cooling system in small amounts won't hurt anything. If there is a great amount of oil there, your water pumps probably need a rebuild.
