Need advice on adjusting steering on 34 tudor. I have a few inches of play at steering wheel.

Any advise will be helpful.

Before you fiddle with the adjustments on the steering box, be sure the components of the steering system are in good condition. This includes king pins, tie rod ends, and the drag link connections. Another common cause of steering play is the arm on the steering box. If the serrations in the end of the arm are worn, or the nut that holds it in place isn't tight, you have located the cause. Adjusting the steering box itself requires instructions to result in preserving the tension of the parts. Simply tightening the adjustments will result in binding that interferes with the action. Unfortunately, the steering box in an old Ford sits next to the exhaust manifold, and can cook the oil into a rock. I use STP to fill the box. Finally, have a helper turn the steering wheel back and forth as you watch the box to see if it is tight to the frame.

Just to add to super's excellent suggestions, I would also jack your car up and place it on jack stands to unload the front end. Have someone turn the steering wheel and observe what's happening and where the slop is. Also grab hold of each wheel and move it back and forth and up and down and see what moves around. If the front end has never been rebuilt, I'll bet it's a bit of everything, a "few inches of play" is a lot.
