When you replace spark plug wires on the early V8 flatheads can you snake the wires down the conduit to the distributor or do you need to unbolt the conduit from the intake manifold and replace them that way? I assume these bolts do not need to be torqued when reinstalling them.

I always remove the conduit, so I can see what I am doing. You could snake the wires into the cap, but it is hard on the back. The bolts should be torqued to 20 Ft.Lbs. Tom This message was edited by TomO on 10-15-18 @ 7:43 AM

I too, remove the tubes, caps, and boots from the engine and I pull the plug wires with a small wire and push from the other end at the same time. A little WD-40 in the tube makes the job go much smoother.

I'm not sure that I would use WD-40 as a lubricant. I have used "pulling compound", the lube that is used by electricians when running wire in conduit. Any Lowes or Home Depot has it.

I can't imagine doing this task with the conduits in place upon the engine. Also, if I am correct to infer that you are asking about a '36... the left conduit has part of the wire harness within that conduit as well. Mike "Kube" Kubarth
