h*llo all .On a 1941 Flathead i have not been running thermostats in it and all summer no over heating but i read somewhere that the oil will look funny almost like sluge . is this because of not having them in there? because thats what i am seeing. the car on the manual water temp says 175- 180. should i put in the stats and where do they sit ? one guy told me on top of the outlets on intake and take a wire across and down under the hose and clamp so they dont move around. and what temp should use?

thank you

175-180 is the perfect operating temperature for these flatheads of ours. Not bringing the engine up to this temperature (short trips) invites sludge to form. Thermostats will bring the engine temperature up to the optimum faster....
