Someone, tomO I believe. said that a 1956 Ford unit would work in my 1950 sedan. There is one on Ebay for $62.17, Sprectra FG 96A, "Fits1956 Ford Mainline 4.8L- V8," and it has the 6 mounting holes like my tank has. Will this work on my car??? Regards, Steve Lee

I don't know if it will physically fit, but the specifications say it is a 200 ohm empty/40 ohm full sender.

If that is an aftermarket unit, it will work just like all other aftermarket units. If you have an original unit in your car, have it repaired. Tom

Car had a Bob Drake piece of c**p in it when I bought it. Don't have an original to repair. and I'm looking for one or a NOS one. Regards, Steve Lee

A NOS one will probably be hard to find. Check with recyclers that have some Ford, Lincoln and Mercurys in their lots. They may have one that is not all rusted out. If you get one from a Lincoln or Mercury, you will have to modify the arm so it reads correctly in your car. Tom

If I understand your question, the answer is "yes" and "no." The bolt pattern of the '56 is the same as a '50. BUT, they are different voltages, 6V versus 12V. Tom

Tom, I believe that the 56 Ford cars used a voltage reducer and 6 volt instruments. The later units will require changing the length of the arm to accommodate the different fuel capacity and shape of the tank in order to work in a 1950 car. Tom
