Topic: Engine cranks but no spark

I have a 1936 ford Fordor. She started just fine but I haven't started her in about 3 weeks. When I tried to start her she would crank and crank but not start. After a while I tested to see if I had a spark to the plugs. I did not. Any ideas what could cause that? She started quickly before she sat.

Look for a loose or disconnected wire in the primary ignition circuit. If you are running a remote coil with a coil adapter, also check to be sure you have good connections at both ends of the coil wire.

There are several possibilities. You are going to have to do some troubleshooting. With the switch on, do you have voltage where the wire connects to the coil? Yes or no to that test will help direct you to components likely to fail.

EDIT: I was thinking while carcrazy was typing.

Th usual suspects are a worn ignition switch, a poor connection at one end or the other of the firewall resistor, any loose connection between the battery and the coil input, an old original ignition coil that has developed an open primary winding, and an open set of one of the points.

I have had the condenser go out on my 36 tudor twice now. If you are using the original coil, replace the condenser if everything else looks good.

It may be as simple as a low battery. It cranks alright but there isn't enough juice left over to fire the plugs. I've had that problem with a couple of my vehicles that sit idle for some time. It drove me crazy.
