  Mike,

I use Sta-Lube 85W-90. Make sure to use the GL-4 rating. GL-5 is not good for bronze parts in the transmission. I buy it at NAPA, but it is available from various sources, including Amazon.

For the overdrive transmission in my 1953, I use only NAPA SAE 90W Mineral Gear Oil API GL-1. Use only GL-1 oil in the overdrive transmission. Note that the main transmission and the overdrive unit in the tail housing are connected internally and share the same lubrication so both units should be filled with a total of about four pints of GL-1 oil. One source for the correct oil is your local NAPA auto parts store. This oil is available in 1 gallon containers under part number 65-201. If your store doesn't have it in stock they can order it for you.
