Did Ford Motor Company assign a Ford part number to each of its 'Ford Authorized Accessories'? Or, to put it another way, did Ford Motor Company ever authorize an accessory with no Ford part number assigned to it?

Depending upon what the definition of "authorize" is, I'm thinking that Columbia rear ends might fall into this category.

Grant, the Columbia was available for the Lincoln Zephyr and Mercury in certain years, so it would be an "authorized" accessory. The Lincoln Zephyr Columbia had a Ford part number and all of the parts had Ford part numbers. I cannot find any part numbers for the Mercury Columbia option. But that does not mean anything. Ford did not include all accessories in the parts catalogs. The Columbia's installed in Fords were a "dealer installed accessory" and would not fit the strict interpretation of "authorized". As to MG's question, I do not have an answer. Tom

I believe that the period terminology is more correctly "Ford-released accessory or optional equipment or special equipment", always at additional cost. Yes, if Ford-released, the item had a Ford part number assigned to it and no, it would be inconsistent with their practice to not assign a part number to a Ford-released item.
