Topic: Adjustable Tappets for V8-60

What is the best source for adjustable tappets for a Ford V8-60 Engine? The major issues are: hardness of tappet compatible with stock reground camshaft, weight of tappet compatible with stock valvetrain components, and best price. Any suggestions? Please advise. Thank you.

We have had good luck finding V8 60 parts at Little Dearborn, 888/282-2066. The original part number for non-adjustable lifters is 52 6500-A. They are common only to the 60HP, '37-'40. Most adjustables are a bit heavier than standard, but not a problem unless you are planning for very high rpm's, such as racing. Hardness of stock Ford camshafts is legendary for toughness. In the case of a regrind, it depends if the case hardening was altered. Good quality adjustable lifters are pricey, usually in the $225-250 range for the set of 16. I've been criticized for venturing that V8 60's are too expensive to rebuild, due to the limited production span and number produced that make parts sparse and costly. They were discontinued because the vehicles were underpowered, but found a home in the early midget racers of the 40's and 50's.
