When shifting from 1st to 2nd gear the lever gets stuck between the two gears while the transmission remains in neutral. What is the most likely cause of this problem? The vehicle is a 1953 Ford Pass. Car with manual transmission and O/D.

The grommets in the shift levers are worn. You should replace the ones at the bottom of the steering column and at the transmission. Tom

I agree with my friend TomO. It can also be caused by a badly worn shift tube on the column, and/or a worn blocker in the transmission cover.
