Topic: 47 Ford Oil Pan Painting

jamesmundstock    -- 06-16-2018 @ 7:56 AM
Was the dipstick boss plain and rivetted after the oil pan was painted or was it rivetted first then the oil pan painted? The Ford book picture shows it plain but that may just be for illustration purposes. Thanks in advance for the replies.

The pan was assembled and then painted. Thus, the boss and rivets as well as the gasket between the pan and boss were gloss black.

Thanks Mike. That is what I thought but wanted to hear from someone who knows.

  James,
I have been corrected by a person that I have a lot of respect for. Apparently, after 40 sometime, the pans were assembled after painting.
I am sorry for leading you in the wrong direction. My sincere apology to you...
