Is there a way to adjust the side to side gap on the hood of my 51 foord. I need to move the hood to the left so the gap on right and left will be the same.

Most of the movement in the hood is at the hinge. The hinges should have slotted holes where they attach to the bottom of the hood. The hood has some movement side to side when you loosen those bolts. There may also be some movement where the hinge attaches to the cowl. Be patient and have a friend to help. it's not a one man job.

There is a Ford Mechanics Service Forum publication called Body Repair, Exterior ("Line Them Up!"). It is Booklet No. 11 in the series for 1950. It starts with 5 pages on aligning the hood, followed by 3 more on aligning the fenders. The first thing they show is aligning the hood panel on the cross brace. The brace is fastened at both ends and in the middle. The holes are slotted. You must take off the ornament and the chrome trim strip to get at the center screws. They recommend loosening one side at a time, along with the middle. Also, check the rubber bumpers to see that the hood is not riding up on one side. They also show how to bend the hinges with a special tool and about positioning the hood catch at the front.
