Topic: V8 Hesitation

Engine starts and runs fine, but with each tap on the accelerator there is a momentary pause of about half a second. Happens at all speeds and during gear changes.
After the pause it always recovers .

Ideas ?

Could be the accelerator pump in the carburetor. BT

Do you have two steady streams from the accelerator pump when you look down inside the carburetor intake? If not, the accelerator pump is not working and should be looked into. If you do have two steady streams of fuel, you can try adjusting the external accelerator linkage to the "winter setting" to inject more fuel on accelerations to cure the problem.

If this is a flathead v8 and you have the original holley or ford carburetor. there is an adjustment for the acceleration pump, 3 different positions. Look on right [passenger side] of carburetor. Be careful taking off the pump link, its easy to damage it.

Check the bottom pin on the small connecting link from the accel. pump rod to the throttle shaft connection,TOO much slop will give you a slight hesitation when giving the gas. Watch it closely , Just crack throttle slowly by hand and watch. Any hesitation from the link to the throttle shaft will cause a hesitation like you describe. Motor does not have to be running to check this. Be careful some links have a small hair-clip behind the top pin. ken ct.
