The top of the head bolts are paint engine green. Is this correct or should they be black?

The head studs were not painted at all. Plus, the heads were not painted. They (heads) were left in their natural state - aluminum. So - not sure what you have going on there...I'm guessing either a completely incorrect engine or at the very least incorrect heads.

Kube, were the head bolts black looking bolts like most of the other fasteners on the roadster?

1934 to 1948 used studs and nuts NOT BOLTS which you keep referring to. ken ct.

They (the studs) were left in their natural state so yes, a kind of flat / satin black.

Cadmium plated nuts and flat washers completed this "unit"...

Hmmm. My catalogues read S8 (zinc), not S7 (cadmium) for the nuts and S7 for the washers used with aluminum heads. That's through '34; maybe they switched to S7-finish nuts after that. I agree that the studs had a S2 finish (black oxide). No, I am not referring to the 1948 green book.
