Took the 51 Custom out 3 days ago. Ran great. Two days ago, I disconnected my ground cable from battery. Then uninstalled my non-working speedometer, then reinstalled speedometer. However, I did not hook up the wires to the instrument cluster. I only connected the speedometer cable to test it. I reconnected the battery cable. I tried to start it and I have nothing. No click, no noise of any kind. Battery is good. I’ve looked to see if I broke a wire when removing speedo, but did not see anything. I pushed it in gear and starter is free. Disconnecting cluster wires would not affect starting, would it? I’ll get the meter out and start trying to trace issue; just wanted to get some direction first. Thanks!

A few years ago I installed an Airtex E8902 electric fuel pump with a filter back by the fuel tank on my '48 Ford. I use a toggle switch to prime the car after not running for two weeks and for vapor lock only and haven't had any issues of running lean in the heat down here. Check to see if there are any obstructions or kinks in the lines . Maybe a clogged fuel filter?

Sounds like you might have accidentally disconnected the wire leading from the key switch to the solenoid. Or, on second look, if you disconnected the ammeter you should be careful of having a hot wire floating around under the dash. Reconnect the ammeter before proceeding. (It's called the "battery charge indicator" on the wiring diagram in the back of the shop manual.) This message was edited by deluxe40 on 4-29-18 @ 12:30 PM

You will have to hook up the wire that runs through behind the charge gage. It is the main power feed to the car. It is the small wire connected to the the battery side of the solenoid and it runs to the dash and behind the charge gage then to the fuse panel. You will have to connect at least a that wire and the ignition wire that feeds the keyswitch to get it running. If you don't want to do that I would just run a jumper to the coil from the negative terminal on the battery and use a screwdriver on the solenoid to crank the engine. You will have to disconnect the jumper to the coil to shut the engine off though. The main power wire is yellow and the ignition wire is red with blue tracer.
