I am trying to install the light switch spider and spring on my 36 but I am having difficulty getting the U shaped retainer in place.Has anyone else had any difficulty doing this?I don't have a lift, only ramps, so I'm trying to do it on my back. Thank you. Frank

I can't speak for how others do it but what I do is have some one hold down the light disk to keep it from lifting. While that is being done I use a screw driver to compress the coil spring on the bottom of the column by pressing down on the switch fork. The grove for the U-shaped retainer can be seen. Slip it in the grove and slowly remove the screwdriver and you should be good to go. Tom

On my 34 truck, I place a yardstick through the steering wheel to hold the horn rod down. From underneath on my back, I use a home made forked tool to push in and compress the spring and washer with my left hand. My right hand is then free to place the retainer clip.
