The motor is a Y block Ford and can be anywhere between a 1954 to 1964. They came in the following configurations; 239 cubic inches, 256 cubic inches, 292 cubic inches, and 312 cubic inches. If you know nothing about this motor it's basically worth scr*p iron prices. It appears to have been sitting for a real long time and you have no idea if was removed due to a cracked block or a number of other mechanical ills. Of course a picture tells you nothing about the condition. I wouldn't scr*p it. Its bound to have some usable parts on it that some one would want.

Who knows why the motor was removed. Was it just pulled to do a rebuild or was it removed because of un- repairable issues such as a cracked block . Did water get into the motor while it was stored? With out documentation, you are basically gambling!

Previous posts have identified it as correctly as could be done from the pictures.Try asking over on HAMB, https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/ A few people use them over there. Unless you know a lot more about it you would probably be lucky to find someone to haul it away. From the fact that it has a 2 bbl carb and single exhaust it is probably (bolt on things can be changed) not a 312 cubic inch version, the one that everyone wants. Triford8, Was there not a 272 ci V8 in between the 239 & the 292? Maybe 1956-57? 1934 Ford's since 1972

Yes you are correct. There was a 272. Thanks for the reminder. I think they were primarily used in the pickups and other commercial vehicles.

The red valve covers with traces of the Y-Block decals still visible, and a small 2 barrel carb tells me the engine is most likely a '58-59 292 out of a F100-250 truck. As I recall, the earlier Y-Blocks were yellow with black valve covers and the '58-64 292's were black with red valve covers. I did not note a PCV system, and the crank-case breather on the lower left side of the engine denotes that the engine is not a '63-64. In any case, I would say the engine is worth, maybe $100. or less. Bill 36 5 win delx cpe
