Topic: 1946 door trim length

mvillebob    -- 05-02-2010 @ 8:57 AM
Is the length of the outside stainless door trim on the 46 business coupe and sedan (5 passenger) coupe the same? If different, what is the length of each?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Bob

Bob I will try and answer your questions.

Sedan coupe exterior rustless door molding measures 42 3/16" and fits the sedan coupe, 2 door sedan and convertible part numbers RH 21A 7020934-A and LH 21A 7020935-A the moldings are correct for Fords built from 1942 thru early 1947

5 window coupe, 3 passenger coupe, business coupe and short door coupe I have heard all the above names used on this coupe the exterior rustless door molding measures 33 9/16" and fits this coupe and the front door of the 4 door sedan part numbers RH 21A 7320934-A and LH 21A 7320935-A the moldings are correct for 1942 thru early 1947 Fords.

I used the 1942 Ford Mercury Body Parts book and the 1944 thru 1952 Ford Body Parts Book. The measurements given are off actual moldings as the manuals do not give measurements and the 1944 thru 1952 manual calls the moldings "BEADED".

I hope this helps Dave

  Dave,

Thanks for your reply! Very helpful. Suspect the hood trim is the same for all models and the quarter trim are different as well.

Thanks again.

Best,

Bob

  Bob the hood molding differs

1942 takes a 21A 16722-A RH
1946 thru early 1947 takes a 51A 16722 RH
I do not have moldings but I think 46 is shorter.

Sedan Coupe quarter molding 1942 thru early 1947 takes a 21A 7629034-A the measurement tip to tip is 62 13/16" and fits sedan coupe and convertible.

5 window coupe quarter molding part number is 21A 7729034-A RH fits only 5 window coupe and is correct for 1942 thru early 1947. It is longer due to the short door and longer quarter, I do not have a molding so measurement is unknown by me.

Bob if you do not own a copy of the 1941 thru 48 Ford Club book I would order one at this site as the book has a lot of info you would find helpful buy the hard back copy. Dave

  Dave,

I have the reference book you mention. The only current problem is that I am in Louisiana visiting our son and the book is at our home in Missouri!

You have been of great assistance. Thanks again.

Best,

Bob

The sedan coupe and the convertible have the same trim. They measure as follows: hood: 50 1/2, door: 42 1/4, rear quarter: 63 1/2. There are three styles, a ridged style for 42-46, and two different shapes for 47-48. One has the high point at the center, the other toward the edge. These are direct measurements from my '47 convertible with original trim. The door trim is shorter than the width of the door because the door handle intersects at the rear of the trim. The running board trim is the same for all models.

  Dear Super,

Thanks for your assistance. Between you and Dave, you got me out of the ditch and back on the road! Next time I will know to pack my 41-48 Ford Book when I travel!

Best,

Bob
