Hello guys, I have just bought a 50 convertible and want to add fluid to the top pump. What is the correct fluid to add or change?? Thanks

Check your owner's manual. Mine says, "Ford hydraulic brake fluid" for the '51.

You might like to review How To Install Top Cylinders & Pumps on the Hydro E Lectric web site.

Lots of information, including:

"Cars older than 1953 use DOT-3 brake fluid" and "Caution - Never totally fill a reservoir with fluid".

Your hydraulic system may not have DOT 3 brake fluid in it. Many systems have been changed over the years because the brake fluid is a good paint remover.

Try to get a sample of the fluid, brake fluid is not as slippery as hydraulic fluid, and brake fluid will make cured paint soften. Don't try to soften the paint on your car, find some other painted surface or rattle can some paint on a tin can.
