Just wondering,I noticed when replacing my fuel pump on my 239 with aluminium intake,I discovered I was using the wrong length fuel pump push rod,I was using longer rod and should be using shorter rod.What noticeable effect would that have on engine performance ?? .Johna

If you are using the longer rod instead of the short the cam may force the the fuel pump lever to travel more than the pump will allow thus damaging your pump.The one for the cast iron manifold measures 8.872 and the one for alum.is 7.872 I assume you are using a stock style alum. manifold.

You would surely damage the pump if run.I have after-market ones for $ 12 and Ford Script ones (NOS) for $22 same shipping on either one for $8. ken ct email , pm or cell 1-203-260-9780

JohnA, are you using an after market aluminum intake manifold, such as one with dual carburetors? The stock manifold on a 1948 Ford is cast iron. I don't know how you could install a fuel pump with a push rod that is 1" too long. Tom
