In peoples opinion what would be the best ratio to install into a Columbia rearend. I have 3:78 in it now

I would stick with the 3.78. I have the 4.11 in my '40 and it's too low for my 2-lane country road driving. I usually wind up in overdrive and then it's too high leaving the stop signs. The card I got from Bill Widenhouse says you will be at 2.73 in high gear O.D. with the 3.78. This assumes 6.00x16 tires.

I agree with deluxe 40. I have a Columbia with 3.78 gear ratio in my '39 coupe. We live in a hilly area and the 3.78 handles the hills perfectly. On relatively level roads on longer trips I always use the over-drive feature of the Columbia, not so much for the extra speed but for the lower RPM's. At 55 mph, the rpm drops from 2600 to about 1900. Much quieter and easier on the engine.

PS. From an operational standpoint, the Columbia overdrive should only be used in high gear.
