Topic: LED tail light bulbs

I thought that I saw a thread about LED tail light bulbs for either '50 Fords or Mercs. I told a Ford friend about it on a phone call, and he asked me a few days later where he could get them and the part #. Does anyone out there have any info???.

They are now commonly used in truck applications. You might check your local truck stop or dealer.

There are bulbs that just replace the standard light bulb and there are replacement lenses that have the LED bulbs over the full area of the lens. In my opinion, the lens replacement gives far better visibility from the rear. I don't remember seeing any advertised for the Mercury, but have seen them for the '50 ford. United Pacific is one manufacturer

United Pacific is the company that made the ones in my '46. They are extremely bright and would recommend them.

A friend put them in his Model A. It was a little panel of LED's that replaced the old bulb when placed behind the lens. Comes in a circle board with many LED's and an option to split the lights for the Model A which has a lens split by a stainless cross bar separating the running and stop lights. Worked great too, much brighter and safer. His came from Bratton's Model A Parts, Snyder's also has them. I'm sure they would work in our V8 tail lights.

1934 Ford's since 1972

  Here is one source

https://www.superbrightleds.com/moreinfo/tail-brake-turn/1157-led-bulb-dual-function-19-led-forward-firing-cluster-bay15d-retrofit-car-classic-car-bulbs/508/#/tab/Specifications

I bought mine at http://classicbulbs.com/

They have very bight tail light bulbs and you pay a lot for them. For the 50 Ford or Merc, search for 170-1154LP.

For the earlier cars with the non-offset lugs, search for 170-1158LP

I'd second the recommendation for Super Bright LEDs. I used them for park/turn bulbs, pillar lights, etc. Another option is Technostalgia: http://www.cool-leds.com/Products_And_Models/Ford/6048-49-50_Ford/6048-49-50_Ford.html. Not a fan of United Pacific after installing them on my 48.

The link Ritzy provided did not work for me, but this one did.

I could not find the voltage requirements on the website, but I have heard that they only work on 12Volts.
