Topic: Battery Cable Gauge for 35, 36 & 29 A.

Am looking over my battery cables on both 35/36 Fords & 29 Model A, both original 6 volt. Wiring battery disconnect switch. What can someone tell me about the proper gauge particularly if I were to use a braided cable with lugs on both ends (not the battery post clamps). Thanks.

It depends upon how long the cable is. Typically a 0 0r 00 gauge wire will handle most applications. if the total length of the cables from the battery to the ground is less than 18", you can use a 2 gauge cable. The type of disconnect switch can also have an effect on the current flow.

To check that you have a good ground, connect the red lead of your meter to the POS post of the battery and the COM lead to the case of the starter. Crank the engine with the ignition off, the meter should read 0.1 volts or less. A higher reading indicates excessive ressistance in the ground circuit.
