I can't get the outer pump gasket to seat against the housing when tightened. These pumps were rebuilt and are the straight pumps. The housing is for the straight pumps. I replaced the rubber gasket that fits on the inner part of the pump. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Try using a little Permatex #2 non-hardening sealant on each side of the gasket to act as a lubricant during the assembly process and a sealant once installed. Hopefully the water pumps won't leak through the center shaft once installed. It is difficult to get 60 HP water pumps to be totally leak-free. One theory is that once they have been run for awhile the front surface of the impeller will provide a seal against the housing to at least minimize leaks if not totally prevent them.
