  I was speaking w/a guy at a car show. He said the '53 V8 flat head in the Ford cars was 110 HP. I said that only Mercury had 110HP, and that was because of the 1/4" stroke and that side draft carburator. Ford cars didn't have those, and so were 100 HP from 1949 thru 1953. I have never heard of a Flathead for the cars w/110 HP!! Your comments??

  Ford went to 110HP in 1952.
Mercury was 125HP in 1952.
1953 was the same.

  How did they get that power for the Ford, and for the Merc????

  the Mercury had a Back draft Carburetor-not a side draft. I have a '51 254 6 cylinder flathead that is rated 110 HP compared to the V8s 100 HP.

  I thought that the air cleaner mounted on the passenger side and that made it side draft? No?

  You said 1949 and 1950 "flattie" V8 had 100 HP. That I know. Then in 1952 ?( I think you said)"flattie" V8 had 110 HP with 8BA heads. Some V8 "flatties" had EAB heads. What is the difference in those heads? What was it about the 8BA heads, (with that cam) gave those Flatties 110HP???What heads did the 100HP's have? Were they the EAB heads? Please explain it thoroughly. I want to learn because this is something that I never knew about.I felt it safe to assume that they just did a regrind of the earlier cam? Thanks for your kind indulginse.
