Anyone have any good tips on how to put a turn of preload on this while replacing? I bought new spring from Mac's . All they could tell me was that it's necessary, but gonna be hard to do. Tia

Greetings, This is back yard mechanic stuff, but here goes. Put a pair of vice-grip pliers on to the shaft next to the standoff bolt with enough of the plier opening to fit a screwdriver parallel to the shaft. Put a turn of preload on the bolt and slip a screwdriver parallel to the shaft through the plier and holding the standoff from turning. Still with me? Then slip the bolts through the holes and get the nuts on before the whole thing goes TWANG! If you have a helper it makes it easy. And if you get it the first time, buy a lottery ticket! This is what makes old cars fun. At least you have some room to work. "Not like them new cars!" Hope this helps. 42oink

I install the assembly to the instrument panel and tie a string to the curved end of the spring. Once all is "in place", I pull the spring with the string and slip it (spring) over the shaft. Pretty simple method and it doesn't mar the paint. Mike "Kube" Kubarth
