Topic: Stromberg 97 Idle Screw Adjustment

V8JR    -- 12-20-2017 @ 6:12 PM
When installing a Stromberg 97 carburetor what is a good starting point for how many turns out on the idle needle screws? Once running, any tips on fine tuning the idle screws? Thanks - V8JR

7/8 to 1 turn out will get you real close. ken ct.

To fine tune turn 1 screw 1/4 turn in and check the vacuum reading, if it is higher turn the other screw 1/4 turn in, if it is lower, back off the 1/4 turn and add 1/4 turn out, check the vacuum and if it is higher back off the other screw 1/4 turn.

Because the idle mixture screws can affect the other side of the carburetor, what ever you do to one side, do to the other side before making further adjustments. Use your vacuum gauge while adjusting the mixture, to get the highest vacuum at idle.

I have installed a PCV valve in my '37 V8/85
When setting the idle mixture using a vacuum gauge do I put the gauge in tandom with the PVC valve or in place of?

A properly installed PCV valve will not affect the vacuum readings, so either option should work.
