I have restored 3 Flateheads-47 sedan, 53 convertible, and a 48 pickup. Started them all on Classic Car oil which is a 15-40W. They are driven only a few hundred miles a year. I am told that there are many others out there with zinc, etc that will do the job as well. I built the engines to factory clearance specs, and they all have good oil pressure. Any suggestions out there?

Why not run a modern motor oil with API Service Code SN and use an Additive like Red Line Engine Oil Break-in Additive which contains the required zinc to minimize valvetrain wear. This will prove to be a less expensive option than using high-priced "classic car" oils.

Check out this report. No additives just synthetic on a stock engine.
